Spencer Glacier - Snowmobile Day Tour

Experience one of the best guided snowmobile tours in Alaska on this unforgettable 5 to 5.5-hour adventure from Girdwood. You'll spend approximately 3 to 3.5 hours riding through the breathtaking winter landscapes of the Chugach National Forests, Placer Valley covering 22 to 26 miles round trip on scenic, snow-covered trails. To the breathtaking views of the blue ice of Spencer Glacier This tour is beginner and family friendly, making it one of the most popular winter activities near Anchorage. While the trails are easy to navigate, drivers must be comfortable operating a motorized vehicle and able to maintain control of their snowmobile at all times. Passengers are welcome; however, we recommend that anyone without previous riding experience refrain from taking a passenger as is does make the machine more difficult to maneuver. The maximum combined weight for two riders on one snowmobile is 350 pounds. What to Expect Your adventure begins by meeting your guides at 8:45 a.m. (or 12:25 p.m. for afternoon departures) at our designated meeting location in Girdwood. From there, we'll return to our office to complete a quick check-in, review waivers, and outfit you with premium winter gear, including: Snowmobile jacket and bibs Insulated boots DOT-approved helmet Winter Gloves Once everyone is geared up, we'll shuttle to the trailhead where your guide will provide a comprehensive safety briefing and riding instruction before heading into Alaska's backcountry. Ride through snow-covered forests, open meadows, and mountain terrain while taking in incredible views. Along the way, we'll stop for photos, warm up with hot cocoa, coffee, tea, and light snacks, and enjoy the peaceful beauty of Alaska in winter. You may even spot local wildlife, including moose, ptarmigan, bald eagles, and the infamous Ravens Spencer & Galileo ravens. While wildlife sightings are common, they are never guaranteed. Don't forget your camera—you'll want to capture every moment of this unforgettable Alaska snowmobile adventure. Seasonal Trail Conditions Our glacier route is operated under permits from the U.S. Forest Service. If glacier access is closed due to weather, snow conditions, or Forest Service restrictions, we highly recommend our Turnagain Pass Ultimate Backcountry Snowmobile Adventure, an equally spectacular experience featuring deep snow, expansive mountain views, and incredible riding terrain.

FAQs

What’s the cancellation policy?

Cancel 30+ days prior for a 95% refund (5% admin fee); 30–11 days prior for a 50% refund or 12-month credit; within 10 days there are no refunds. A $50 rebooking fee applies to tours rebooked within 7 days of the tour date. Travelers insurance is highly recommended.

What should I bring?

Bring winter clothes (hat, balaclava) and at least a valid driver’s permit if you plan to drive your own snowmobile. We provide top-of-the-line coats, snow pants, boots and helmets.

Will I see wildlife?

You may see glaciers, moose, ptarmigan, eagles and ravens along the way, but wildlife sightings are not guaranteed on any tour.

Can I drive a snowmobile if I've never driven one before?

Yes! Most of our guests are first-time snowmobilers. Snowmobiles are surprisingly easy to learn, and before your tour begins, your guide will provide a thorough safety briefing and riding instruction so you feel comfortable before heading onto the trail. The biggest adjustment for new riders is that the throttle is operated with your thumb rather than your foot like a car. It usually takes just a few minutes to get used to, and our beginner-friendly trails are the perfect place to build confidence. That said, drivers should be comfortable operating a motorized vehicle and be able to maintain control of their snowmobile at all times. If you're unsure about driving, we also offer the option to ride as a passenger and simply enjoy the scenery while your partner or one of our experienced guides does the driving.

What do people say about Alaska Wild Guides?

We had such a great time jet skiing with Alaska Wild Guides. We were a little bit scared at first, but Jacob was an awesome guide and eased our worries. From standing on floating glaciers, to swimming in the glacier waters, Jacob made sure everyone was safe and even took some epic pictures of us. 10/10 recommend, and will definitely be coming back!

The jet ski tour was amazing and absolutely worth it! We spent plenty of time riding to several glaciers and a beautiful waterfall, and the scenery was incredible. Jacob was a fantastic guide—he shared the history of the glaciers, made sure everyone had a great time, and pointed out lots of wildlife, including otters and sea lions swimming underwater. It was an unforgettable experience, and I highly recommend this tour!

Experience of a lifetime. This was one of the coolest and most unforgettable experience I’ve ever had. Bryce was nothing short of phenomenal as our guide, his energy never wavered throughout the entirety of our tour. He was extremely knowledgeable and was kind enough to take some pictures of us out on the water and by the glaciers. Cannot recommend this enough, a must do if you’re nearby!!

It was 40F and raining. It was one of the best weather days for Whittier. We were dressed in dry suits. We remained warm and dry. The glaciers and wildlife did not disappoint. My kids ages 9 and 11 had a blast. The jet skis had a dry space for a cellphone or camera. This is a must do adventure! The tunnel to get to Whittier was a masterpiece.

How can I begin to describe our jet ski experience with Alaska Wild Guides? It was unforgettable, thrilling, and far beyond anything I could have imagined. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed by an incredible team that made us feel excited and ready for the adventure of a lifetime. We were fortunate to have a beautiful sunny day, which made the experience even more spectacular.I have to admit, I struggled a bit with the jet ski at the beginning, but our amazing guide, Bryce, took the time to patiently teach me everything I needed to know and helped build my confidence before we headed out. After a little practice, including learning how to do donuts, we were off on an incredible journey.During the four-hour tour, we stopped at several breathtaking locations with stunning views. One of the highlights was getting close to two glaciers, which fulfilled a lifelong bucket list dream. Along the way, we saw sea lions, mountain goats, and eagles. Bryce made sure we did not miss a thing, pointing out wildlife and sharing information throughout the trip.We cannot thank Bryce enough for making this experience so memorable and for ensuring our safety from start to finish. Alaska’s wildlife and scenery are truly extraordinary, and this tour allowed us to experience them in a way we will never forget.I highly recommend this adventure to anyone looking for an unforgettable Alaska experience and who is ready to spend four amazing hours on a jet ski. It was worth every minute!

Here are the reasons why you’re going to have so much fun on your Alaska Glacier JetSki tour with Alaska wild guides 1. They will provide all the gear required for warmth and safety. We had 5 of our own layers underneath the insulated suits and booties etc but they will give you more if they think you’re not going to be warm enough. We got some extra wool socks which I thought was overkill but trust Fred, he knew what was needed! 2. Fred (assisted by Jacob and Connor) was our guide and had the right mix of commentary vs letting us admire the amazing scenery in quiet awe. He was also great at assessing our experience and letting us go as fast as he thought we would be comfortable.. we had so much fun going fast ( for me anyway) on the way back!! 3. It’s so amazing nosing through blurgy bits and growlers and skirting around bigger stuff. 4. Enjoy the probably once in a lifetime chance to get up close to 2 majestic glaciers. The silence is golden and then to hear the cracking that echoed and the thundering of even the smallest calving of ice ….going to stay us forever! 5. Seeing seals in their environment…lots on a large float and then even better a Mum and her baby on a small ice float by the glacier. We would never have seen it ourselves . thanks Fred! I could go on, but pretty much the best thing I can say about the trip is that we all individually thought this was our favourite excursion on our 14 day Alaska cruise ( Skagway rail and bikeway was a fun runner up!) It was expensive for us ( we’re from little NZ) but it was so worth it!

Unforgettable experience. Our guides Bryce and Fred were amazing - informative, hilarious, and made this a great time. We went out in pretty extreme weather, which just added to the atmosphere. We’ve been on jet skis, toured around Iceland, done helicopter tours, but jet skiing to a freaking glacier is next level. Saw a cute sea otter floating on a chunk of ice - adorable. 🦦🧊 Book it now. You won’t regret it.Shout out to Bryce and Fred - yall are the best! 👏✌️

This is one of the best experiences I’ve ever had! My guide Alex was extremely knowledgeable, fun and helpful, who made sure that I felt safe on the machine and enjoyed every bit of the absolutely stunning journey. He also took great photos and even went out of his way when I wanted to come closer to a waterfall and he brought me there ( which he didn’t have to do but did anyway)! The scenery was amazing and we spot some animals floating around. The glacier is mesmerizing and the freedom you feel when you’re surrounded by ice and nature is incredible! The best part is the jumping tho! Absolutely worth it and the adrenaline rush is something else! 100% recommend if you’re visiting Alaska, not only the tour but the overall service and staff at Alaska Wild Guides make your experience personal and unforgettable!

I did the Spencer Glacier Snowmobile Tour in March. The guide and drivers of the bus were all great. It was so amazing riding across the snow when the glacier came into view. You can have a bit of fun on the snowmobiles, you don’t have to stay in single file the whole time.

Omggg this was one the best excursions I have ever done. The team was extremely knowledgeable and fun. I had some trouble getting comfortable with the snowmobile and was allowed to ride with the instructor instead. He made me feel very safe the entire time. Absolutely incredible experience from start to finish! Our 4.5-hour snowmobile guided trip was beyond amazing. The guides were friendly, knowledgeable, and made sure we felt comfortable and safe the entire time. They provided all the gear we needed, answered every question, and truly went above and beyond. The ride itself was stunning, with multiple scenic stops that gave us a chance to take it all in. One of the highlights was getting to stop and interact with the dogs—petting them and learning about dog sledding was such a unique and memorable experience. The warm hot apple cider was the perfect touch and made the whole adventure feel even more special. Everything was so well organized, and the staff was incredibly easy to work with. You can tell they genuinely care about giving guests the best possible experience. If you’re thinking about booking—do it. This was hands down one of the best adventures we’ve ever had!

The snowmobiling was so much fun, and the dog sledding was the perfect cherry on top! Chantelle (I hope that’s how she spells it) was also so cool! I am so grateful so this thrilling experience. I wish I could give 10 stars!

I had an absolutely perfect tour experience with Alaska Wild Guides! Alex as my guide and he was so patient and helpful with me - celebrating my 70th birthday and never been on a snowmobile. The ride back to Battle Dawgs was breathtaking and so much fun. The sled dog ride and the Battle Dawgs facility were equally amazing and so informative. Such an authentic Alaska experience too. Then a return ride back on the snowmobile thru more beautiful woods and breathtaking views. The length of this tour was just perfect too. These people are professional - equipment and procedures were top notch. I highly recommend them and will hopefully take other tours with them.

Absolutely fantastic tour to Spencer Glacier. Snow conditions were less than ideal, but it was well worth the bumpy ride for the experience at the glacier. Elijah was a fantastic guide. Definitely worth doing.

My family had a wonderful experience with Alaska Wild Guides on the tour to spencer glacier. The staff was on time, answered questions and was very kind. The scenery on this tour is breathtaking. Seeing the glacier up close was amazing, the scale, and the colors were fascinating. Lastly, I will share that my wife who has limited motorsports familiarity and had never drove a snowmobile felt comfortable and came away saying she would do something like this again. Great company and a great tour!

A jet ski tour to glaciers???!!! This was hands down the best Alaskan Tour we've taken in the 3 times we've visited Alaska. From the minute we met Alex and Bryce, our tour guides, we were taken on a tour that was simply EPIC. OVER and OVER again during the tour. We were lucky enough that a small iceberg was at Billings Glacier and each of us in the tour had turns standing on it for photos that Bryce took. (EPIC experience #1). Then we continued with follow the leader and came to a 150' freefall waterfall that we got to ride in. Yes, ride into. (EPIC experience #2). They had us take individual turns doing it so Bryce could video us. How he manages those incredible videos while on a jet ski is nothing short of amazing. Then we head over to Blackstone Glacier where Alex decided to jump in as part of his last day nod to the Glaciers. None of us were daring enough, but we got the invite. Oh, you are wearing wet suits for this trip. 50 miles roundtrip. I get cold, but never was despite being on a jetski in 40 degree weather. Epic experience #3 was watching a ginormous chunk of Blackstone Glacier calving. Alex and Bryce had us hang out there because they had a feeling it was going to happen and it sure did. These guys were incredible and so much fun! They shared all the photos and videos with us once we got back to their office. It was my birthday that day and I was crying happy tears while we were out there that we got to do this. Don't even hesitate for one second to book this.

The best ride on the ocean is with Alaska Wild Guides! Our Guide was awesome and knowledgeable. She was safe while getting us super close to the glaciers and a waterfall. Riding through the ice field so low to the water was unbelievable. It’s a totally different experience being so close to water you can touch it, then from a boat. I highly recommend these guides and taking a jet ski to the glaciers.

Great fun time with Alex as our guide. I felt safe and warm as I flew across the top of the water in Blackstone Bay. I think a gator should be recommended to cover face in the wind of ride. The speed was a bit intimidating at first, but by the last hour I was ok and acclimated. The views from the jet skis were great once we stopped in front of them, but I would have liked going slower in areas to enjoy the surroundings a bit, but I guess that is for a boat ride. The weather cooperated fully and the day could not have been any more perfect! Thank you.

This was the experience of a lifetime! We had taken a boat tour of the area, but this was a whole different experience, being on a jet ski on the water in front of the glaciers. Bryce was the best jet ski tour guide ever! Super fun, very knowledgeable about the glaciers and marine wildlife, and personable. He took time to give us a thorough tour of the area, and we were thrilled at the end to see the Dall's porpoises. He created opportunities for us, such as zipping in front of a huge waterfall. You can't top this! We highly recommend this small family run business that truly cares about each customer and has the best guides ever!

No Regrets! You WILL regret coming up to Alaska and NOT doing this Wave Runner Glacier experience. I debated going on this because •it’s gonna be cold •it’s gonna be wet •it’s gonna be windy •it’s gonna be rough and choppy •I’m gonna need a bathroom break (I’m 60 so this was a real thought) There were 100 excuses I told myself to not go, but only one reason to go that matters. No regrets. It’s that simple. Riding a wave runner is fun, but our guide Alex was so knowledgeable and enthusiastic about sharing information about each stop. He absolutely made the experience worthwhile and more than a joyride. A You get remarkable access to some of the coolest spots that you will only reach on a wave runner or a kayak. Let’s face it, if you’re reading this, you don’t want to paddle a kayak. Oh, by the way…what we didn’t get; Cold, Wet, Wind, Rough water, or uncomfortable. So if you’re choosing between a big tour boat with interior seating, hot chowder, televisions and loads of people, do yourself a favor and do something different, without regret. Do wave runners. Do experiences that are memorable. No Regrets!

I’ve done a number of adventures in Alaska (dog sledding, air taxi, Nordic spa, jet boat excursion, etc.) and the jet ski tour here hands down is now my favorite experience. Alex was a great guide, sharing a lot of knowledge and was super personable. He took pictures for everyone on the tour and gave the history of the area at each stop. Maddie in the office was so kind to everyone and helped get the group started and docked when we returned. We had perfect weather for our trip and the views were mesmerizing. I think riding up close by the waterfall was the highlight of the trip for me but we also got to see ice falling from the glacier, which was pretty incredible as well. I was in awe the whole time. If you’re looking for an epic adventure, don’t hesitate to book this. Amazing tour and the best staff around. Thanks for the memories.

Jet skis in ALASKA?! Yes please! 🤯❄️We zipped out with Mark from Alaska Wild Guides.Whittier itself isn’t much to look at… but trust me, THIS tour is 💯 worth it. Once we hit Blackstone Bay, it was like entering another world. 🏔️✨ Gliding across glassy water at 52 MPH 💨, layered up in dry suits while it sprinkled on and off around us, and STILL feeling cozy.We saw adorable seals 🦭, an otter popping up to say hi 🦦, and got up close to one of the most jaw-dropping waterfalls 💧—then heard a massive CRACK as a chunk of glacier crashed into the sea. Unreal. My favorite noise was my daughter screaming “woohoo this is awesome” behind me.The only thing missing? A humpback whale breaching in front of my jet ski… but hey, I’ll take what I can get 😂🐋📍Blackstone Bay = magic.🎯 10/10 recommend for the adventure junkies out there!

Phenomenal experience! My kids rated our jet ski tour of prince william sound one of the best things they have ever done. If you are doubting this experience, just go. It was a bit choppy on the water for our day, nothing we could not handle. We saw sea lions hanging out in one our coves, and were able to see tidewater glaciers up close and personal. It was phenomenal from top to bottom. Alex was our guide, he did a great job with our teens and kept us having fun during the whole experience. They equip you with a dry suit. As long as you layer up underneath, you will not get cold and will stay dry. They even let you go swimming and you stay dry due to the suit. Don’t have any worry about the cold, we stayed warm our entire time and my daughter was a bit worried before hand. One of the best experiences we have ever done.

Such an amazing experience, expensive but worth the price especially with all the things you get to see vs. just kayaking. We got to see waterfalls, glaciers, ice bergs, sea lions, seals, otters and kittiwakes. It was definitely a little scary being on a jet ski for the first time but we started off slower until we got the hang of it. I probably wouldn’t have brought my dad on this trip but definitely recommend for anyone who can ride a horse or drive an ATV. Our guide, Bryce, was awesome and gave us a lot of background knowledge of the area and the glaciers we saw.Pros: amazing scenery, awesome guides, unique experience, adrenaline rush, see a lot in a half day tourCons: if it rains it gets way colder/hurts your face (could help to wear the balaclava or ski goggles), can be physically demanding going over wakes, expensive (but every tour in Alaska is)

Our family of 4 had the best time doing this! Unfortunately, the weather was not that great that day (rainy and windy) but we were given the option to switch to another day. We did not have any other free day and our 18 and 14 year olds were intent on going. That being said it was still pretty great. We are from Florida and feel pretty good with jet skis so we went for it. At first, it was choppy but then it did get better (smoother). I could just imagine how much faster u can go if the weather cooperated. The guides, Jade and Bryce, were awesome. Super professional and all about safety. We saw seals, a mama mountain goat with her baby, and sea otters were popping up next to us! But nothing could have prepared us for the beautiful waterfall and glacier. The color of the water is just stunning. Thanks guys for making this day so special for us!

I run docks in the winter and I took this trip with some friends and it was the most amazing experience. I think it was one of my favorite days in Alaska. The guides are phenomenal, fun, and knowledgeable. The jet skis are super stable and the glacier was very active. Amazing birds, waterfalls and scenery. Alaska Wild Guides provided the perfect intro to Alaskan life in the snow. Already planning next year's trip back, hoping to convince friends to join me on a multi-day snow safari. Three different excursions this week, starting with the Denali & Dog Sledding combo. Second was the Talkeetna Back Country tour. Finishing with the Turnagain Pass experience. The machines, the gear and the service by Derek, Amanda, Alex, Jade and Jake, was first-class. Spending a few hours at Battle Dawgs dog sledding camp, was most memorable. In addition to the dogsled ride, mushers Shantel & Miriam explained Battle Dawgs mission of taking care of military veterans struggling with PTSD. AMAZING!

This was our second time snowmobiling with Alaska Wild Guides and it was just as great, if not better than the first time. On this trip, my husband and I did the Denali View Snowmobiling and Dog Sledding Tour out of Talkeetna, AK. We loved being able to snowmobile and dog sledding all in one tour. The tour takes you to Battle Dawg’s kennels where you get to meet all the dogs (and puppies) and go for a dog sledding tour. We were able to see moose along the way too. The views were great on the ride and we absolutely would go on a tour again with Alaska Wild Guides.

I had an unbelievable experience here. I took a winter tour that consisted of taking snow machines out through some trails, up to the Battle Dawgs dog kennel and it was nothing short of amazing from start to finish. My guides were SO friendly and helpful, and got me outfitted with more appropriate gear than I came with (swapped boots, and my mittens for gloves) which were clean and brand new. They gave us a run down of the tour, what to expect, how the machines were to be operated, etc and we were quickly off. My group split up because we paid for different packages so I was solo with my guide. My guide was quick to point out moose, caribou, and coyote tracks and droppings along the trail and explain how fresh they were, what they meant, and lots of information about the local wildlife. He was super patient in letting me pull over to take photographs of the landscape, and finally, at one point slowed down, signaled to cut the engine and beckoned me over, where he pointed out a moose from a safe distance, which was a bucket list item for me. I am from Maryland man.. I've never seen a freaking moose before! We made it to the kennels and spent a lot of time chatting with the guides there inside the nice, warm, and shockingly well furnished yurt, where I was provided warm cider and snacks. Everyone was so friendly and passionate about the work of the non-profit and the dogs themselves. After relaxing for a bit we toured the kennels, met and played with all the dogs, and learned about their histories and roles in mushing. I met the main musher at the kennel and she gave the okay to release the PUPPIES! I felt like we were at the kennel forever, and my guide never pressured me or even insinuated it was time to get going and head back- he left that entirely up to me.Eventually we headed back to the main cabin, but the ride back was surprisingly long! We still took many trails instead of bee-lining back considering it was the end of the tour. I appreciated that he didn't take a "closing time" mentality and rush me back, and let me have some more fun and soak it in. After all, this vacation was a life long obsession realized, and it meant a lot to me.The staff could not have been friendly or more accommodating and this tour surpassed any expectation I held going in. Not only will I return next year, but I will be both requesting the same guide, as well as donating to and promoting the Battle Dawgs non-profit in the meantime, as it seems an extremely well-run and passionate project. Thank you all so much for a dream fulfilled!

We had a great last minute trip with 2 families today. We were staying in Girwood and the skiing was limited so we did the quick drive (2.5 hours north) and it was totally worth it. We did the combination snowmobile and dog sledding… super fun and memorable experience. They provided all the necessary snow suits, boots, helmets gloves etc.. it was -20F but everyone was very comfortable:) .. blue skies and we had amazing views of Denali. Hanging out with the dogs and holding puppies were a big highlight as well. Highly recommend this company and trip! This Jet ski trip is epic. The views of Prince William Sound, waterfalls, and glacier were awesome despite the really crappy weather for the day. Our tour guide was Jade who was knowledgeable and took great photos for us. Would book again with this company.I understand that they do tours multiple times a day so the dry suits do get worn out and people don't always treat borrowed equipment with the most respect, but some of the areas of the dry suit were stretched out and allowed water in, leading to being much colder on this day.

This is a must if you’re coming to Alaska. The scenery is incredible, the tour is lengthy and the guides do a great job. You don’t have to have any experience on a jet ski to do this, they’ll make sure you feel comfortable out there. We had a couple people in our group that had never been on one and they did fine. Seeing these glaciers and waterfalls from a boat is one thing but being on a ski out there is another level. Will do this again when we come back.

We spent a week and a half in Alaska and did a TON of cool stuff around Denali, Anchorage and Seward. This was the best thing we did. Driving a jet ski/wave runner is always a lot of fun, but this ride will dazzle you with its views, your tour group will feel like no one is around (other than wildlife), and they don't skimp on the distance here (we journeyed about 50 miles on the jet ski).

The tour itself is incredible no matter what tour you go with. We originally booked with a different company and were super sad they canceled due to weather. We booked this one for the next day and the weather was perfect! Only thing I’ll say is that this company did in fact go the day before whereas the company we planned with canceled, and the weather was in fact VERY choppy and awful, so I appreciate that the other canceled. But again the tour itself is a MUST! We were so happy with the days weather we got, the water was glass and made for a smooth ride. Owen was fun and let my husband jump in and was knowledgeable!

Best adventure ride. The guide should have warned us more regarding the steering because we were 1st time skiers.

Great trip. Super fun. Guide was wonderful. Wofe never rode a jet ski before and the guide made it super easy. She was tearing up the waves on the ocean. Seen some otters, a harbor seal and a Porpoise. Even jumped in the water by the glacier. And honestly, my favorite part was the hidden gem by the glacier. I won't spoil it. You'll have to find out. 100% recommend.

I took my two teenage boys to Alaska and we had such an incredible time on the Jet ski tour! Our guide was awesome! He took such great photos for us. Even thought it was raining we still enjoyed the tour. The glaciers and waterfall were spectacular! We even got in the water. I would highly suggest making this a part of your trip!

We had an amazing experience. This excursion is not to be missed. We have never jet skied before, and were slightly apprehensive—-and then had such a fabulous time. Our 10yr old son loved every moment. It was amazing to be so close to everything. Our guide, Alex, was terrific!
